We Live In This Valley (1962) Title Graphic

The film footage features a documentary snapshot of the Hunter Region as it existed during the early 1960s in the areas of public recreation, sport, agriculture, dairying and heavy industry.

We thank Yvonne Austin, niece of the late Douglass Baglin, for granting permission on behalf of the family for this film and its related materials, to be made available to the wider global community.

The original film was commissioned by Hunter Valley Co-operative Dairy Company Ltd. The original reel was unearthed by Peter Smith, a former worker for the company, and digitised by Greg & Sylvia Ray to accompany a DVD for their book Changing Places in 2012. The original reel was donated to the Cultural Collections (Archives) in the Auchmuty Library of the University of Newcastle (Australia).

Soon after this, another set of reels, totaling eight in total and including five outtakes reels (called “offcuts”) was located at the Morpeth Museum. These were also donated to the Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle, who had all reels digitised, with the exception of Reel 4, which, due to its poor condition could not be done.

Please find below all the direct links to the UONCC Youtube channel for all the films, the link below each video directs you to the blog post that provides a second by second breakdown of the subjects in the footage.
