Victoria has been on placement in the GLAMIMG_5191x Lab during Semester 2 working on the DeepTime Project with other students, volunteers and UON staff. The project was initiated early in 2017 by the Innovation Team at the University of Newcastle, with students and the wider community involved in the project in the second half of the year.

During Victoria’s placement she has had the opportunity to work as part of team to develop an understanding of Aboriginal cultural sources and archaeology – and has gained a better understanding of working with culturally sensitive material.  liaise with various professionals about the project. The DeepTime project has given Victoria a chance to see what a professional setting looks like as well as attend meetings in that professional setting.

The DeepTime project is diverse providing a wide range of opportunities for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) students and volunteers, Victoria has gained skills including:-

  • 2D scanning
  • 3D scanning
  • Understanding metadata
  • Artifact measuring
  • Accessioning and re-housing cultural sources.
  • Use of digital platforms (Livinghistories@UON)
  • Desktop survey
  • Log recorded data
