Media Mutations ‘Unlocking a Television Archive in the digital Era’ International conference Bologna University, Italy 26 May 27 May 2025
By Dr Ann Hardy
I had the honour a few weeks ago to present a paper at the ‘Media Mutations ‘Unlocking a Television Archive in the digital Era’ International conference at Bologna University, Italy, the oldest university in the western world circa 1088. I meet some wonderful researchers and heard about how they use television archives and was inspired by all the presenters. A special thanks to the organisers Matteo Marinello, Emiliano Rossi and Luca Barra as well as other wonderful researchers such as Associate Professor Nanako OTA and Dr Carolyn Birdsall who I met at the conference. I gave a special shout out to Dr Jeannine Baker, University of Newcastle feminist media historian who has used the NBN archive in her important research. Also special thanks to Adjunct lecturer Phillip Lloyd for starting and maintaining this AV digitisation project and to Special Collections colleagues. And finally a huge shout out to our dedicated industry professionals and volunteers who come in weekly to work on the project, I hope I did my colleagues proud and thank them all for their ongoing dedication in digitising the NBN television archive. The project is now in its 14th year.

Wow what a buzz that must have been dear Ann! Congratulations.
I loved my years at NUC and the gift to my growing mind and world view of being taught by Godfrey Tanner and Norman Talbot and Harri Jones and the Biggins duo … and even Peter Trist who taught me so much about Theatre … even though we constantly bickered about matters of the actor’s role in interpreting the script! cf
