The Knaggs Plans
The Knaggs Plans of the Port of Newcastle are a series of plans published as part of the The Newcastle nautical almanac, directory and guide to the Port of Newcastle. (Newcastle, N.S.W. : R.C. Knaggs & Co.) from surveys conducted of the harbour.
We have been able to locate a selection of those published from 1880 to 1895 held in the University’s Cultural Collections in the Auchmuty Library.
What They Show
They show the development of Newcastle and Stockton’s streetscape, and the Port of Newcastle.
You can also learn a great deal about the ancient Aboriginal landscape by studying the topography in the plans.
They were digitised in the GLAMx lab from copies of the Newcastle Nautical Almanac located in our Rare Book serials S528.05/1.
