The University of Newcastle’s IT Innovation Team are undertaking a 3D Virtual Reality Reconstruction of the Newcastle’s historic Victoria Theatre, located in Perkins Street Newcastle.

This work is being conducted to support the work of Dr Gillian Arrighi, Convenor, Creative and Performing Arts, School of Creative Industries, who along with Stephanie Holm have been funded by the ARC, through the LIEF scheme, under the aegis of the AusStage Phase 6 Visualising Venues in Australian Live Performance project (LE170100003), a national project involving 12 universities, administered by Finders University.

Gaute Rasmussen and Vendela Pento from the UON’s IT Innovation Team, were joined by Stepanie Holm (UON Victoria Theatre Researcher), Gionni Di Gravio (University Archivist) and representatives of Century Theatres including Greg Khoury, Daniel Ballantyne and Justin Macdonnell (Anzarts Institute) as well as other visitors.

The site visit took place on the 9th July 2018. Daniel Ballantyne conducted the tour through the Victoria Theatre.

  1. Such a beautiful building in it hay day, should have been restored a long time ago. Brings back lots of memories for me. THANK YOU.

  2. Loved the tour it bought back a lot of memories for me as I worked for Easthams in the late 70’s. The girl that worked in the stockroom once gave me a tour of the dressing rooms and prop rooms and even up on the “catwalks” was very eerie.
