Just wanted to share how happy we are with the recent achievement of Karen Moller, Digitisation Officer, who has just completed the re-digitisation of the University News / UniNews Collection on Living Histories.

Why Re-Digitise?
The Project to redigitise all issues of the University News and Uninews from 1970-2006 was begun on 24 February 2026. The original scans were undertaken in the early 2000s using very basic scanners, and optical character recognition (OCR) was in its infancy. Most of the scans were rasterised black and white with the images lost and unviewable.

Improved Searchability
All issues are now fully searchable which is a massive improvement! If University students, staff and community members are ever looking for something in particular, it will make things so much easier for them to find and locate.
“Re-scanning old issues, adding issues that had been missed and bringing them back to life, especially those with old black and white photos so people can actually be identified was only one of the highlights. It was even more exciting seeing so many familiar faces in the pictures of people I got to know and I’ve worked with over many years … that just confirms how long I’ve been here now and makes me feel like a dinosaur
, hahaha!” – Karen Moller
We encourage you to check out the refreshed collection because it looks amazing, especially if you remember what it looked like before.
