Shipwrecked Newcastle (2024) – Stories of Our Town Film Release

Bar Dangerous

Newcastle Harbour was once the world’s 5th biggest harbour. It was also one of the most dangerous.

And once you factor in the regular visits by the Australian east coast lows (ECLs) you come to understand why there are hundreds of shipwrecks in and around the Port of Newcastle.

Historic Images, Artworks, Film and Underwater Drones

The film features hundreds of historic photographs and newly digitised artworks by the late historian Terry Callen, and the most amazing underwater drone footage of the shipwrecks off the coast of Newcastle.

Most of these wrecks have fascinating stories and that’s why this story is now being told in film for the first time.

Dozens of historians, professional divers, journalists, and one Maritime Archaeologist have gathered to be part of this film.

This film also takes us underwater to see the wrecks up close thanks to assistance of many local professional and amateur divers. This is a must see! Free entry.
