NBN Television Newsnight, April 19, 1988 (BETACAM 4)

This Newsnight tape is part of the NBN Television archive and was digitised by our first UON Communication student Tom Sinclair who undertook a WIL (work integrated learning) practicum in the GLAMx Living Histories Digitisation Lab in September 2017.  Many thanks to Phillip Lloyd and Barry Nancarrow (former NBN Television staff) who are digitising various forms of material from 1988, including BVU tapes, Index cards and listing items as they are appeared in the ‘Newsnight’ series footage. In total 28 taped stories from “Newsnight” current affairs and cued sheets were digitised and scanned.

00:09 – 04:45 – The Hawaiian Triathlon. One competitor is Merewether mum Barbara Brown.
04:56 – 05:41 – Flight of Tahitian Terrorists who flew from Tahiti to Sydney then to Singapore where they were arrested and sent back to Tahiti via Sydney.
05:53 – 06:12 – An unknown person in a bath.
06:25 – 06:49 – Bridge over Swansea Channel.
07:05 – 07:27 – John Church reports on Long Wall Mining and visit Larry Pickering the Cartoonists put down his pen and has taken up Race Horses.
07:41 – 13:53 – Interview with Craig an AIDS patient about his condition.
14:07 – 14:54 – Crocodile meat on sale.
15:05 – 16:05 – Report about BHP production
16:18 – 17:00 – Ronald Reagan giving a press conference about Iran
17:13 – 18:02 – Report on a fugitive Tony living in the Upper Hunter and hiding from police.
