Emeritus Professor Maree Gleeson OAM Installed as Patron and Research Collaborator

Emeritus Professor Maree Gleeson OAM

We are delighted and honoured to announce that Emeritus Professor Maree Gleeson OAM has been installed as a Coal River Working Party Patron and Research Collaborator.

Emeritus Professor Gleeson OAM is the former Director of the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), a position she took up in 2006. She has nurtured the HMRI to maturity in fostering and implementing health and medical research in the Hunter region and promoted that research to the wider community. In 2011 she received her OAM For service to medicine through the Hunter Medical Research Institute, to education, and to professional associations.

The Coal River Working Party decided at last year’s December meeting to invite Professor Gleeson to the team following statements she made in a 2010 Newcastle Herald feature (‘Research and Rescue’ by Frances Thompson 30 October 2010 H2 p7) where she indicated her love for the history of  Newcastle and her willingness to play a prominent role in protecting our heritage, and essential culture and its role in establishing “a great vision of where we want to go.”

We welcome Emeritus Professor Maree Gleeson aboard, it is a great honour for us, and we look forward to her contribution to this region’s historical research and visionary endeavours.
