#OnThisDay in 1834 William Morris was born. He w #OnThisDay in 1834 William Morris was born. 

He would grow up to become an influential designer, poetry and fantasy fiction writer, printer, social activist, and proponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain. He co-founded the Kelmscott Press which produced exquisite letterpress books using artisanal methods that remain highly prized today. 

Special Collections holds a copy of Morris' 'The Water of the Wondrous Isles', printed by Kelmscott Press in 1897.

#WorldMeteorologicalDay highlights the vital impor #WorldMeteorologicalDay highlights the vital importance of climate data records, for climate change modelling and disaster risk reduction. 

Special Collections has been part of a collaborative effort to digitise, transcribe, and make available significant meteorological data sets from ‘Wollong’, NSW, dating from 1843-1907. 

The data sets were predominantly recorded by Marion Wyndham. The 'Wollong' collection also consists of the personal diaries, journals, photographs and correspondence between members of the extended Wyndham family.

This #WorldPoetryDay we celebrate the little-known This #WorldPoetryDay we celebrate the little-known poet, Gertrude Hopkins. 

Hopkins' collection, Gertrude's Poems (1895), reveal her love of nature and strong connections to loved ones. Born in England in 1869 she emigrated to Australia in 1884. 

Our copy of Gertrude's Poems is part of the Reta Light Australian Poetry Collection.

Happy International Women's Week! Today we are ce Happy International Women's Week!

Today we are celebrating our women in sport. 

Sue Beisty is a former marathon and long distance runner, she participated in many ‘Fun Runs’ in the Hunter Region, as well as nationally. In March 2022, Sue was interviewed about her running career, she relived some of the special moments and discusses what it was like to be a women runner in the 1970s and 80s.

Today is #InternationalWomensDay and we are celebr Today is #InternationalWomensDay and we are celebrating Margaret Senior (1917-1995), a celebrated natural history and children’s book illustrator who through her art brought awareness and inspiration to preserve and sustain our natural heritage. You may be familiar with her iconic NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service posters. #IWD2023 

The Margaret Senior exhibition is open now at Auchmuty Library, Level 2.

Join us for the launch of the Margaret Senior: Ill Join us for the launch of the Margaret Senior: Illustrator - Wildlife Conservationist Exhibition launch, on Wednesday the 8th of March at 10.30am at the Auchmuty Library. 

The exhibition celebrates the career of Margaret Senior, showcasing original artworks and the artists iconic NSW Parks and Wildlife posters. 

The exhibition will run until mid-June, 2023.
