- NSW Teachers Federation and their quiet protest during Vietnam (Dr Effie Karageorgos)
Bio – Effie Karageorgos is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Newcastle. She teaches and researches histories of protest, mental health, gender, war and violence. She was awarded the State Library of New South Wales David Scott Mitchell Fellowship in 2023. She is Deputy Co-Director of the UON Centre for Society, Health and Care Research and co-editor of Health and History journal. Her latest book Quiet Protest: A New History of Activism during the Vietnam War was published in April 2026 by University of New South Wales Press

Erica won the award for her work on the Treasures of Cintra House Project during the 2025 Vera Deacon History Internship at the University of Newcastle Library’s Special Collections, a collaboration between the University of Newcastle Library and Maitland City Council, Australia special thanks to Catherine E Blanch, Clare James, Gionni Di Gravio, OAM and Dr Amir Moghadam for guidance in archival and conservation practice, and Dr Katy Sentas for support with digital curation. Erica’s work significantly advanced the preservation and accessibility of Maitland’s history and brought outstanding technical skill, and leadership to protecting the legacy of Cintra House, an exceptional 1878 Victorian residence. She is an outstanding young achiever in the field of heritage conservation. A huge congratulations to Erica.
