Ralph Snowball: Capturing Newcastle Premiere

Last night I had the privilege of attending the sold out premiere of the 21st Stories of Our Town film “Ralph Snowball: Capturing Newcastle”. The launch was hosted at a special pop-up history venue made possible by Ship4Good and Arts Maritime Newcastle.

This film explores the life and work of Ralph Snowball a Newcastle photographer active from 1885 to 1924 and celebrates the professionals and volunteers who helped bring his photos to the public. This year marks the 100-year commemoration of Ralph Snowball’s death and we were honoured to have Robert Snowball (Ralph’s Great Grandson) in attendance. The film was a delight to watch, a fascinating view into life in Newcastle, over 100 years ago.

Featured were team members from the City of Newcastle Library and many from our own Special Collections team, including: Gionni Di Gravio OAM, Dr Ann Hardy and Dr Amir Moghadam.

Now that the film has launched, I encourage you to see it for yourself. Watch the film here, for free, through the Stories of Our Town YouTube channel:
