Celebrating 50 Years of Colour

On March 1st, 1975, NBN Channel 3 Newcastle Television launched its permanent colour broadcasts, bringing a vibrant ‘colour burst’ to local screens.

Here is a news story from NBN Television (1 March, 2025) about the introduction of colour television in the region, includes interviews with former employees Glenn ‘Cookie’ Cook (cameraman) and Ray Dineen (News presenter).  NBN television archive is currently being digitised at the GLAMx Lab, Auchmuty Library by a dedicated team of industry professional and volunteers.

Blast From The Past

This day, 1 March 2025, coincides with the 50th anniversary of Australia’s official transition to colour television, often called ‘C-Day,’ a landmark event that saw all major networks nationwide embrace and broadcast in colour.
