  1. Newstep (Open Foundation) graduate here. I failed my HSC and undertook Newstep to get my ATAR score up. Through the patience of my English lecturer Jennifer C (I think that was her name), I learned how to write essays, form objective arguments, and add citations/references. Newstep was challenging, but I was also under a lot of stress with my mother being diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the course. I changed as a person that year – I grew up and embraced the opportunity before me, studied hard and almost doubled my ATAR result. Mum got through her treatment too that year. It was a year of pain and growth and I wouldn’t be where I am today without that experience.
Newstep put me back on the path of my learning goals and I graduated from my dream BA Design degree at UNSW in 2014. That degree saw me head overseas on exchange where I learned from leaders in my field and I met lifelong friends I still connect with to this day.
I am now working at the uni at the DTS and I work in the same building I learned a handful of design courses in during my Newstep program.

    1. Dear Melissa, thanks you for sharing your story and how wonderful you are on campus where your academic journey first begun. Regards Ann Hardy (Special Collections)
