The story of Yallarwah Place as told by authors Paul F. Walsh & Susan Harvey through interviews recorded in 2024 with Richard Jeans, Hunter New England Local Health District.
Paul is an alumnus of the University of Newcastle and recipient of the Newton-John Award. He, together with Dr Raymond Kelly and partner Susan, together with an amazingly generous Hunter community, set about making the dreams of the late elder Uncle Bob Smith come true.
The Yallarwah Bicentenary Memorial is believed to be among the first united Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal memorials in Australia.
The opening of Yallarwah Place, an Aboriginal Accommodation Centre at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle occurred on the 19th February 1999.
Novocastrian Tales, created, published, co-written and edited by Paul F. Walsh was a national bestseller.
The Novocastrian Tales project raised over $600 000 to build Yallarwah Place.
Interviews with Paul and Susan were recorded on the 7 August 2024 and the 25 September 2024 respectively with Richard Jeans, Communications Advisor, Strategic Relations and Communications for Hunter New England Local Health District.
