Showcase Program
Online showcases are held on the first Monday of every month (except January and public holidays) and open to staff and students of the University of Newcastle, the community, bona fide community researchers, industry partners and professionals to share their research.

Showcase Guest Presentation 1: “Liddell: it had to close!” (Dr Ken Thornton)
Dr Ken Thornton explores the history and recent closure of the Liddell Power Station, and the emotional impact it has had on the people who worked there for the past 52 years.
Showcase Guests Presentation 2: “Raise Your Voice: Talking Back to Monuments” (Assoc. Prof Nancy Cushing, Mr Nikolas Orr, Dr Irene Perez Lopez)
Last Saturday afternoon, (3 June 2023) the “Raise Your Voice: Talking Back to Monuments” Community Forum was held in the Uni Gallery, with presentations from artists Travis De Vries, Fiona Lee and Tiyan Baker on re-imaginging monuments using digital arts. There was also insights from two First Nations presenters into the critique of statues (including intro by Nicholas Orr and overview of new book Monumental Disruptions by Professor Bronwyn Carlson, Macquarie University and Terri Farrelly) and of using digital means of memorialisation (Nicole Chaffey of the Murrook Cultural Centre). There was a bit of exciting discussion afterwards, but not enough! Please welcome the organisers Assoc. Prof Nancy Cushing, Mr Nikolas Orr, and Dr Irene Perez Lopez to fill us in and continue the disrupting.

- Margaret Henry Memorial Lecture: Cassandra Goldie, CEO of Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS), will deliver the MHMA lecture. The title of her talk is “Rewriting the Script: Social Change in the Hunter”.Date: 8 June 2023
