Russell Rigby has identified a number of sketches by artist G.F. Angus. The sketch below by G. F. Angas in the NLA collection (http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an2879016) shows the Australian Agricultural Company B & C pits, with wagons on the railway incline from C Pit.
The row of pit houses near the lower (B) pit are shown on several maps and pictures, but we haven’t seen anything else that shows the (C) Pit on the top of the hill. The two pits, railway & row of houses are shown on the 1851 harbour chart. The artist would have been near the Obelisk looking west.
