GLAMx Lab Professional Placements & Volunteering – Semester 1, 2019

PrintWork Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities are available for students to undertake placements at the UON’s GLAMx Living Histories Digitisation Lab located at the University Library, Callaghan Campus. You will draw on GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) professions across conservation, archival science, librarianship, digitization, metadata and data management, curatorial and digital heritage sectors.

You will gain experience in a range of digitisation skills and work with cultural sources and archives held at the University. For example digitising glass negatives and other photographic formats. Transforming a range of physical formats into digital objects. Or photograph and illustrate artefacts.

The GLAMx Lab also has a separate Audio-visual Digitization Lab housing the NBN Television archive and an Artefact Conservation Atelier for conservation and 3D digitisation of Aboriginal artefacts and other artefacts for virtual reality (VR) simulation. Learn how to edit digital formats, add metadata and upload to social digital platforms such as livinghistories@uon and curate collections and archives online. This work to make archival sources more discoverable and accessible allows a worldwide community to engage with our cultural heritage of the Hunter Region.

If you are interested in an a professional placement or would like to volunteer in the GLAMx Lab, please contact Dr Ann Hardy Coordinator, Living Histories Digitisation Lab on 49854594 ann.hardy@newcastle.edu.au
