Seventeen tracks featuring Convocation Lectures over two decades have just been uploaded to the Cultural Collections SoundCloud. These recordings were found in the University of Newcastle’s Oral History Collection. The playlist includes Dinner Speeches, Public Lectures and Inaugural Lectures.

Highlights include the 1994 Newcastle Lecture by Thomas Keneally, who was recorded being briefed before his speech, some saucy stories about the influence of alcohol in politics by Mungo MacCallum, and a lecture from Paul Lyneham himself.

For those with a more academic interest there is the lecture on Trade and the Environment by Professor Tim Considine, The Integration and Disintegration of the (Former) Soviet Union lecture by Anatoli Sosnovski, and Professor Leith Morton’s The Japanese Language.

Those interested in medicine might enjoy Richard Henry’s Asthma in Children, Professor Geoff Cutfield’s Inaugural Lecture on Anesthesia and Intensive Care, or even Denise Wilfley’s lecture on Eating Disorders.
