Event 1: Opening of Coal River Precinct: Interpretations Exhibition and Walking Tour Launch.
An art exhibition of local and invited artists interpreting the Coal River Precinct running from Friday 4 – 20 April 2008. Exhibition opening and launch of the Coal River Precinct Walk brochure on Friday 4 April at 7pm.

When: 4 April 2008
Where: John Paynter Gallery, the lockup, 90 Hunter Street Newcastle
Time: 7 pm

Event 2: Experience living history: Coal River Precinct Walk
Accompany members of the Newcastle University Coal River Working Party who developed the concept of the Coal River Heritage Park, recently nominated for National Heritage listing.

When: Sunday 6th April 2008
Time: 2 PM – 4 PM
Where: Meet at the lockup, 90 Hunter Street

Forum: Newcastle: Our Place, Past Present and Future

Speakers:

Professor Peter Spearritt, Centre for Applied History and Heritage, University of Queensland, on “Celebrate your Port City: how to avoid becoming yet another Darling Harbour.”

Professor Steffen Lehmann, School of Architecture and Built Environment, University of Newcastle on “Heritage and Globalisation.”

Gionni di Gravio, Archivist, University of Newcastle and Chair of the University ‘s Coal River Working Party on “Creating a Novocastrian Renaissance.”
